Product Information

Welcome to the tablets computer website.  Here you will find useful information and tips on tablet computers.

It wasn’t so long ago that the only tablet computers available was the Apple iPad 1, the grand-daddy of tablets.  Today, all the major companies such as Samsung and RIM have released their tablet versions.  Even Amazon is getting in the game with the Kindle Fire. To complicate this the tablets run on different operating systems.  These are iOS (Apple), Android (Samsung, Motorola and others) , QNX OS (Blackberry) and yes even Windows (HTC, ASUS, HP, etc). With so many tablets being introduced into the market each month, the selection choice can be quite daunting.

Tablets Computer’s Choice

The two major contenders are iOS (latest version is 8) and Android (Latest version is 4.2 called “Jelly Bean”).  If you are an Apple lover or have an iPhone 4/4s/5/6, you will most likely go for the iPad 3 (current version which Apple has decided to name just iPad).  With the iPhone 4/4s/5/6 and iPad, you can use facetime between them.

If you’re not an Apple fan, you will most likely go for the other tablets running on Android.  Tablets Computer choice in the Android area is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7″ Tablet and not the 10″ version. It fits in your palm and pant pocket (large ones) so it is truly portable. We don’t particularly like the Apple iPad due to its size (10″) and its lack of support for Flash and Silverlight and it’s stringent rule on controlling how iOS apps are distributed.   Sure there may be more apps available for the iOS than Android, that gap should be closing. Android is still rather new, so it’s still buggy in some ways. Latest update is that the Flash issue may not really be an issue as tablet development is moving away from Flash to HTML5.  With Apple’s recent release of its mini-iPad, this is certainly going to make other vendors sweat.

If you have a Blackberry smartphone, you would most likely pair it with the Blackberry Playbook to take advantage of the Blackberry Bridge feature.  However, with what’s going on with RIM as a company, we’re not sure what’s going to happen with their products.

No matter which direction you go, tablets are still computing devices scaled down from the laptop netbooks (those mini-laptops) and scale ups from the smartphones.

So are tablets computer a fad or will it fade away? What do you think?
